Welcome to ASA, the Association of Secretaries and Administrative Professionals in Asia Pacific. PAS hosted the 1st Asian Congress of Secretaries in Manila in 1974 which was attended by delegates from Australia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, Republic of China, Singapore and Thailand.

The formation of ASA has created a means for associations of secretaries and administrative professionals to communicate with one another for the betterment of the individual associations and the profession.

MAIN OBJECTIVES OF ASA
to gain recognition for the secretaries and administrative professionals, as a professional to promote friendship, understanding, unity and the exchange of ideas among secretaries and administrative professionals in Asia

HOSTING OF CONGRESS
An ASA Congress is held biennially and is hosted by one of the member associations on a rotation basis, according to seniority of membership in ASA. The biennial congress of ASA serves as an important venue for office professionals to meet, exhange views, and share experiences encountered in the workplaces as technology continues to expand and the role of the office professionals evolved in offices.

So far, seventeen Congresses have been held and these Congresses have brought together secretaries and administrative professionals of different backgrounds, culture and work environment from all over Asia-Pacific and the USA to discuss and work continuously to upgrade the secretarial and administrative profession.

Travel & Visa
Indonesia is a full ASEAN member and as such the usual Asian travel restrictions apply. Visitors must all hold a valid passport (minimum of 3 months prior expiration date), return or onward tickets, all documents required for their next destination, and sufficient funds for maintenance during the period of their stay.

Many visitors to Indonesia will not need to obtain a visa for visits for up to 90 days. This includes citizens of all ASEAN members, if your country is not part of ASEAN, you will need a visitor visa to enter Indonesia.

Citizens of all other countries should enquire with the Indonesian embassy in their country regarding the local visa application process. In many cases, a letter may be required from your company/organization to inform Indonesian officials that you are travelling to Jakarta to participate in this conference.

SAFETY
Throughout the event, please be mindful of this important information, and feel welcome to provide any additional comments or suggestions to help deliver a safe and healthy event. Additional safety and security details will be available once in Jakarta.

At the Ritz-Carlton Hotel:

  • Never disclose your room number or allow the hotel to say your room number in a public place.
  • Report lost room keys immediately to hotel personnel.
  • Always check your guest room peep-hole before opening the door. If a hotel representative asks for entry into your room, but you are not expecting him/her, contact the Front Desk immediately.
  • Lock your passport and valuables inside the complimentary safe in your hotel room.
  • Emergency Exit signs are green in colour and depict a person running.
  • All guests must use staircases to exit the building in the event of an emergency; elevators will not be operational.
  • Fire alarms, fire extinguishers and sprinklers are located in all areas of the hotel. Fire alarms and sprinklers are located in all guestrooms.
  • If you need to activate a fire alarm, find a small red "alarm box" and simply break the glass and pull the black button to activate the alarm.
  • The hotel has a public announcement system to communicate to guests during an emergency. Should an alarm sound during general sessions, guests should exit to the nearest Exit sign. Listen for instructions! Everyone should remain together as a group.
  • The Ritz-Carlton Hotel has English speaking, 24-hour security personnel.
  • Hotel security is trained in CPR, First Aid and Fire Response.
  • An on-call Doctor is available 24-hours per day.
At Off-site Venues:
  • Handrails are available for most stairwells.
  • Vehicles with seatbelts have been arranged for all airport and off-site transfers.
  • Security and/or venue personnel will be present during off-site functions. They will have contact with emergency personnel
When Travelling:
  • Leave photocopies of your passport / visa and travel itinerary and a list of any other important credit card numbers, phone numbers, etc. with your Emergency Contact (Emergency Contact information is required as part of your Registration).
  • All visitors to Jakarta should practice the same common sense and personal security practices that are part of everyday life in urban areas, particularly when spending time in areas frequented by tourists. Visitors are strongly encouraged to secure their valuables, and be aware of pickpockets and purse-snatchers. Such criminals focus on areas and establishments frequented by tourists.
  • Never leave your purse, bag or jacket with valuables on the back of a chair or out of sight.
  • Enquire and agree on a fare before you enter a taxi. Information on taxi fares can be obtained from the bellmen at the hotel. In the Event of an Earthquake Jakarta is in an earthquake zone. If an earthquake occurs during the Conference the basic steps below should be followed, as supplied by the hotel. DO NOT PANIC
Indoors:
  • Stay where you are.
  • Drop under a desk or sturdy table or stand in an interior doorway. Avoid windows, filing cabinets, bookcases or objects that may fall or collapse.
  • Cover your head and neck with your arms until the shaking and after-effects stop.
  • Do not use the elevator.
  • Go to designated assembly area as instructed by the hotel.
Outdoors:
  • Move away from buildings, trees, and electrical lines.
After the earthquake:
  • Guests should only re-enter the hotel when be invited back inside by the hotel staff.
  • Check for injuries. Do not attempt to move seriously injured persons unless they are in immediate danger of further injury.
  • Be aware of after shocks.
  • Be aware of potential danger from gas leaks, downed power lines, damaged structures, and other hazards.
